Art Education at PS51
Shani teaches full-time at a wonderful elementary school in NYC. Shani steers the Visual Arts program at Elias Howe Public School 51 where she has developed the elementary visual arts curriculum for the last 13 years. She has created a culture of learning at her school where every child believes that they are an artist giving them voice and agency through the arts. Shani can help you develop a sustainable, dynamic, well-rounded visual art education program catered to the young artists you serve.
Art Education Consultancy
Shani works with several non-profits, arts-based companies, organizations, city agencies, and school programs developing and enhancing art education programs. Shani can help you develop your cross-disciplinary approaches through the arts and guide you as an Educator to improve your personal and professional practices.
Pre-service Art Educator Training
Shani has years of experience supporting pre-service educators. She partners with several higher education institutions providing training and professional development. Some of her partner institutions include SUNY New Paltz, School of Visual Arts, Hunter College, Pratt Institute, City College, and NYU. Shani takes great pride in preparing pre-service Educators for their future careers in Art Education. She can help mentor both undergraduate and graduate students as well as facilitate workshops at your institution.
Global Impact Work
Shani has served as an Art Education Consultant on several global projects bringing her passion for Art Education to both Educators and young artists. The focus of her work includes teaching others how to integrate the arts into their already established curricula and enhance their cross-disciplinary studies. She has also partnered with non-profits to donate both school and art supplies as well as books to underprivileged global communities. Shani can help you facilitate global initiatives to infuse the arts into programs and places in need.
Professional Development
Shani provides Professional Development to NYC Art Educators. When she isn’t conducting her own PD, she works directly with the NYC Office of Arts & Special Projects facilitating PD for a monthly Manhattan Borough Arts Learning Community. She also serves on several community-based arts planning teams developing arts curricula and programming citywide. Shani can provide meaningful PD that will deepen and broaden your teaching practices & enhance what you are already doing in your classroom/organization.
Art Direction
Shani has been hired by individuals, schools, companies, and organizations to provide art direction for various projects, events, and photoshoots. With experience in fashion, visual arts, and idea development, she has a wealth of experience to share. Shani can help you bring your art based ideas to fruition and creative visions to life.
