Shani is a full-time visual arts educator at PS 51 Elias Howe School, where she has led and developed the elementary visual arts curriculum for the past 19 years. She has cultivated a creative, student-centered culture where every child is empowered to see themselves as an artist with voice and agency through the arts. Pre-service Art Educator Training
Shani has extensive experience supporting and mentoring pre-service art educators through partnerships with higher education institutions including SUNY New Paltz, School of Visual Arts, Hunter College, Pratt Institute, City College of New York, and New York University. She is passionate about preparing future educators for meaningful careers in art education through mentorship, professional development, and hands-on training. Shani has served as an art education consultant on global initiatives that bring creative learning opportunities to educators and young artists around the world. She has also partnered with nonprofits to support under-resourced communities through donations of school supplies, art materials, and books. Professional Development
Shani provides professional development for NYC art educators and collaborates with the NYC Arts Office as an Arts Office Lead and Facilitator. She also serves on multiple community-based arts planning teams, helping to develop arts curriculum and programming across the city. Her workshops are designed to inspire educators, strengthen teaching practices, and expand creative approaches to learning.
