WHO IS SHANI PEREZ-ANTHONY?

Shani Perez-Anthony is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Art and Design Education Department at Pratt Institute and a Visiting Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Art & Art Professions at Steinhardt, New York University. She is an Art Educator and Arts Office Lead for New York City Public Schools (NYCPS), as well as an Art Education Consultant with a deep commitment to advancing arts education.

 

Currently, Shani leads the Visual Arts program at Elias Howe PS 51, where she has developed and sustained a comprehensive visual arts curriculum for the past 19 years. In addition to her school-based leadership, she serves as a professional development workshop facilitator for art educators and pre-service teachers across New York City and beyond.

 

Shani is a member of the NYCPS Arts Committee to the Panel for Educational Policy (PEP), a coalition of arts educators, consultants, museum directors, cultural arts organizations, arts-based nonprofits, Arts Education Roundtable members, Department of Cultural Affairs representatives, and higher education leaders. The committee advocates for equitable arts education, universal access to high-quality and sustainable arts programming, sequential arts instruction for all New York City public school students as an essential component of a well-rounded education, and the development of a comprehensive Arts Education Strategic Plan.

 

Her work also includes advisory roles on strategic initiatives with the Guggenheim Museum, NYU Astor Fellows, multiple higher education institutions, and various global and community-based organizations.
