In this lesson, students explored the world of Abstract Art through a variety of artists. Students viewed how various elements of art are very prominent in Abstract art (line, color, shape). They learned how subjective abstract art is and how many abstract works inspire individual interpretation. They learned about the life and work of Wassily Kandinsky. They learned that many of his paintings were named similar to songs or musical works like Composition and Improvisation. Listening to the music that inspired Wassily while participating in visual and experiential exploration, artists had an opportunity to create Abstract works of art of their own. They listened closely and used the sound, tempo, pitch, and chords to inspire the lines, colors, and shapes used in their work.
