We recently celebrated literacy with us at the end of September. We were so thankful to work in partnership with Lameane Isaac at The Brooklyn Public Library Macon Branch to celebrate literacy and honor the legacy of a community trailblazer & Macon Librarian, Taneya Gethers-Muhammed. I believe the events of the day truly touched the branch and the people in attendance. We were so blessed to have very special guest readers including our NYS 56th District Assemblywoman Tremaine Wright, New York City Council Member for the 36th District Robert E. Cornegy, Community Board 3 District Manager Henry Butler, and Bridge Street Development Corporation, Director of Community Engagement and Community Board 3 Vice Chair, Oma Holloway. Special thank yous to our participating partners including Bed Stuy Youth Arts Academy Dancer Adia F.; Ifetayo Guest Storyteller Chiquita Camille; Prince Garrett Guest Author Jannie Pilgrim; Story Pirates Changemakers- Story Creation Zone Storyteller Tessa Hersh; Asase Yaa Dance Team; Guest Drummer and Storyteller Basha Alperin of Zeybrah.org. The children were so excited to visit the face painting station with our awesome Face Painter,
Arieana Rodriguez & wonderful assistant Laila. The unveiling of the artwork dedicated to Taneya was beyond words and we were happy to be present for the installation of the special collection of children’s books in her memory. Every family in attendance walked away with some great books, resources, and so much more. Photos captured by Linntv Productions.
