Each year, the UFT coordinates an artwork service project with a local hospital/medical center and one of our local elementary schools.  Students create artwork that gets donated to the hospital/medical center for patients and visitors to enjoy.  The Art of Giving project was inspired by the late Sharon Coates, a teacher at PS 156 in District 23, whose spirits were lifted by student artwork during her many hospital stays.

On Monday June 8, 2015, PS 51 5th grade artists donated 20 works of art inspired by Claude Monet to The Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility is located

at 1752 Park Ave. at the corner of East 122 Street. Led by Karen Alford, Vice President for Elementary Schools of the United Federation of Teachers, they were celebrated for the works they created and grateful to have been able to participate in such a meaningful event.
