Students in the 1st grade learned all about value in art. The learned that value is the lightness or the darkness of a color. They explored how tints (the light values) are created by adding the color white & shades (the dark values) are created by adding the color black. Students studied the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh. Using his impressionist style of art as seen in many of his works, students explored tints and shades using various brushstrokes. When complete, they collaged a silhouette of the city on top of their background.
